5-Day Mount Kenya: Sirimon–Chogoria Traverse
Climb Point Lenana (4,985 m) on the gentle Sirimon route and descend through the spectacular Gorges Valley on the Chogoria side.
Price on request
Mount Kenya is Africa’s second-highest mountain and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its jagged summits, Batian and Nelion, require technical climbing, but Point Lenana (4,985 m) is a superb trekking peak reached without ropes.
The mountain is quieter than Kilimanjaro and, many say, more beautiful, with tarns, valleys and spectacular afro-alpine vegetation.
Bamboo and montane forest, giant lobelias and groundsels, glacier lakes such as the Hall Tarns, and sunrise from Point Lenana over the Kenyan plains.
Up the gentle Sirimon route and down the spectacular Chogoria valley.
The shortest and steepest route, through the “vertical bog”.
Nelion and Batian for experienced climbers (on request).
The driest months are January to February and July to September.
About 3–4 hours by road from Nairobi to the trailheads near Nanyuki, Naro Moru or Chogoria.
