8-Day Northern Kenya: Samburu, Ol Pejeta & Lewa
Away from the crowds: the Samburu Special Five, rhino conservation in Ol Pejeta and Lewa, and a night at an Aberdare tree lodge.
Price on request
Ol Pejeta is a large not-for-profit conservancy on the Laikipia plateau, with Mount Kenya rising to the east. It is home to the largest population of black rhino in East Africa and to the last two northern white rhinos on Earth, guarded around the clock.
It also hosts Kenya’s only chimpanzee sanctuary, a refuge for orphaned and rescued chimps.
All of the Big Five, plus cheetah, Grévy’s zebra and reticulated giraffe. Visits to the northern white rhino enclosure and the chimpanzee sanctuary are memorable highlights.
Day and night drives across open plains with Mount Kenya views.
Meet the rangers who protect the last two of their kind.
Learn about the rescue and care of chimpanzees.
Join researchers tracking the conservancy’s lion prides (on request).
June to October and December to February; Ol Pejeta is rewarding all year.
About 3.5 hours from Nairobi by road, or a short flight to Nanyuki.
