The Serengeti — from the Maasai word for “endless plains” — is Tanzania’s oldest and most famous national park. Its grasslands, granite kopjes and riverine woodlands support the Great Migration: around 1.5 million wildebeest with zebra and gazelle following the rains in a year-round circuit.
Because the herds are always somewhere in the ecosystem, we plan your camp location around the season.
The migration herds, huge prides of lion on the kopjes, cheetah on the short-grass plains, leopard in the Seronera valley, and river crossings on the Grumeti and Mara rivers.
Full-day drives following the herds with a packed lunch.
Dawn flights over the plains with champagne breakfast.
Seasonal camps that move with the migration.
December to March: calving in the southern plains. June–July: Grumeti River crossings in the west. July–October: Mara River crossings in the north. The central Seronera area is good all year.
Scheduled flights from Arusha or Kilimanjaro to several Serengeti airstrips, or a full-day drive from Arusha via Ngorongoro.
