Tarangire National Park is named after the river that runs through it — the only permanent water in the area during the dry season. From June to October, wildlife pours in from the surrounding plains, and elephant herds of several hundred can gather along the river.
Ancient baobab trees give the park a landscape unlike anywhere else on the northern circuit.
Huge elephant herds, lion, leopard, buffalo, giraffe and fringe-eared oryx, with more than 500 bird species recorded.
Follow the Tarangire River in the dry season.
Guided walks in neighbouring conservancies.
Available in conservancies bordering the park.
June to October is outstanding. In the wet season many animals disperse, but birding is excellent.
